Sony’s PlayStation State of Play Showcase Reveals Indie Titles, Third-Party Games, and More

Sony has announced a new State of Play event today, September 14, where it is expected to showcase several games from various genres.

According to Sony, the broadcast will focus on “previously announced games coming to PlayStation consoles,” covering “indie and PS VR2 highlights to upcoming major titles from our third-party partners.”

What Not to Expect

This event follows the PlayStation Showcase held earlier this year in May, during which the gaming giant revealed Bungie’s Marathon revival, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and even hardware announcements, including a new handheld remote gaming device, the PlayStation Portal. (formerly known as Project Q).

Of course, PlayStation Showcase events tend to be bigger and full of content compared to State of Play events. Therefore, in today’s gaming environment, don’t expect any first-party reveals with new IPs or sequels to games like Ghost of Tsushima.

Also, it should be noted that Sony has not promoted Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 at today’s State of Play event, given the game’s scheduled release next month on October 20, 2023. In the past, we’ve seen Sony host State of Play. events for games like Horizon Forbidden West. However, it’s worth noting that Sony has already shown extensive gameplay during the PlayStation Showcase earlier this year.
